Liberal message

To the editor:

San Francisco Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval's recent statement that "the United States should not have a military" is the best of the left yet.

He has the courage to say what anti-war liberals in this country truly feel. It will help diminish what little remaining power the Democratic Party has. For him to say this is certainly shocking to sane Americans. Liberals may ponder this, though.

If this does seem absurd, Sandoval's final comment was, "That's the way a lot of people feel in San Francisco." He also said America will eventually discard its military.

San Francisco, an oasis for hard-core liberals, is finally sending their message loud and clear with no ambiguity.

Well, let's add some more nutty liberal voices to the din:

"One can't doubt that the American objective in Iraq has failed...Our mission has failed because Iraqi animosities have proved uncontainable by an invading army of 130,000 Americans." ... That's from that loonie lib William F. Buckley, from that lefty rag The National Review

And how about these Bush-hater whacko pinkos who hate America and our president and everything we stand for, whining about his deal to sell our ports to his Arab buddies:

"It is a huge mistake for him to be defending this decision. The president will be overturned." ...Indicted former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay

"I'm requesting briefings on this deal. If the Administration does not put the deal on hold, I will introduce legislation doing so." ...That hippy-dippy Bill Frist, Senate Majority Leader

"There have been some dumb decisions since the United States was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001. : But the decision to sell port operations : to a company owned by the UAE may be the dumbest of all. ...Liberal media mouthpiece Cal Thomas

Why do these people hate America so?

If only a few conservatives could make themselves heard, maybe, even if just for a brief shining moment, these liberal hate spewers could be drowned out.

Curtiss,

The ports are not being sold. The ownership of P&O of Great Britain, that currently manages these ports, was sold.

Besides, Dubai did not crash the planes into the the WTC and Pentagon. We have no proof that Dubai funds Al-Qaeda. We have no proof that Dubai has weapons of mass destruction. We can keep a watchful eye on them by having them close at hand. Remember, keep your friends close and your enemies closer, right? We have nothing to fear from the United Arab Emirates, right?

Well, with you fascists having all the army-less liberals surrounded, it's just a question of time till you think of something there that will require you to mount a pre-emptive invasion (similar to the home invasion robbery in the headlines here today.)

What's the point of having a military if you don't use it?

My God the idiocy is on parade today. It would be troubling were it not so inconsequential

I knew it! Rtwngr is actually a closet leftie! Here he is defending the Arab port deal, arguing against Cal Thomas, Michelle Malkin, Tom DeLay and Bill Frist.

Billyflay--what you seem reluctant to acknowledge is the that plenty of liberals have served in this country's military. PUH-LEN-TEEE! Myself being one of them.

I don't necessarily agree that the U.S. shouldn't have a military, but in this country, the military is untouchable. To dare suggest cutting spending for the military is met with indignance, hatred, hostility, FEAR. Perhaps if right-wingers weren't so freakin' terrified of everything around them, we wouldn't need to throw money hand over fist at war.

Whatever happend to the old adage about education: throwing money at it won't make it better...well, throwing money into fighting terrorists won't make them go away. Money won't bring you the salvation from terrorists that you pray for every day. That salvation will require far more than neo-cons are capable of comprehending.

And those of us with alternatives to just throwing money at war are labeled Anti-Americans, pansies, crazy, communists. You're so in love with your military that you've become ignorant to other solutions. You've become unwilling to listen to anything that doesn't involve bombing the $hit out of the poorest people on the planet.

It must really suck to be consumed with a love of violence fueled by relentless fear.

Greed and fear are what is fueling the right-wing christian populism in ascendence these days. Greed and fear are powerful messages and easy ones to get elected on. However, they are more difficult to govern under. Things tend to fall apart. Reason, compassion and tolerance are much harder messages to get across, especially to christian fundies.
