Staff, volunteers’ favorite artifacts now on display

A yearlong exhibit called “A Few of Our Favorite Things” is being featured at Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass. The exhibit is in conjunction with a celebration of the Year of the Museum.

Staff and volunteers at Watkins will select their favorite 100 artifacts from the museum’s 3-D and archival collections to display throughout the year. The first installment is open through April 2006. Among the first 25 objects displayed are a fluoroscope, a window grate from a World War II POW camp, one of the first teddy bears and transcripts from President Andrew Johnson’s impeachment trial in 1868.

The Year of the Museum is part of the American Association of Museum’s 100th anniversary. AAM is the largest association dedicated to promoting excellence within museums. As part of its anniversary, AAM decided to honor museums across the U.S. by naming 2006 the Year of the Museum.
