Offices announce Presidents Day closings

Some government offices and public services in Lawrence and Douglas County will be closed today in observance of Presidents Day.

All city offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the General Services Administration and the federal courts. State offices will be open.

Douglas County District Court offices will be closed, but county administrative offices and the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be open.

City and county offices in Ottawa, McLouth, De Soto, Eudora, Franklin County and Jefferson County also will be closed. City offices in Tonganoxie, Baldwin and Oskaloosa will be open.

Banks will be closed.

Lawrence Bus Co. buses will run, and MV Transportation buses will operate.

The Lawrence Transit System will operate on regular routes, and parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free.

Kansas University offices will be open. The Dole Institute of Politics will remain open.

No changes are planned in the city’s residential or commercial sanitation route schedules.

All parks and recreation classes and adult and youth sports activities will play as scheduled. All water fitness and instructional classes will remain on normal schedule.

The Indoor Aquatic Center and Carl Knox Natatorium will be open regular hours. The Community Building and Holcom Park Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The East Lawrence Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. South Park Recreation Center will be closed except for scheduled classes.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open.

There will be no mail delivery today.

All activities at the Lawrence Senior Center will run as scheduled. Lawrence Meals on Wheels will deliver.

The business office of the Journal-World will keep its normal hours.

USA Today will be delivered.

Most liquor stores will be open.
