Commissioners to OK Kasold design

Lawrence City Commission agenda highlights ¢ 6:35 p.m. Tuesday ¢ City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets ¢ Sunflower Broadband Channel 25 ¢ Meeting documents online at www.lawrenceks.org

Bottom line

City commissioners are set to finalize the design for the rebuilding of Kasold Drive from Bob Billings Parkway to 22nd Street. Commissioners also will have to approve an increase in the estimated cost of the project. Cost estimates have increased to about $4.6 million, up from just under $4 million previously.

Background

City commissioners also will be asked to consider providing incentives for contractors to finish the project ahead of schedule because it is a major roadway. Engineers have suggested that contractors be awarded $2,000 per day for each day the project is completed ahead of schedule, with a maximum payout of $100,000. Engineers also have suggested that contractors be fined $2,000 per day for each day the project runs over schedule. The project is expected to begin May 1 and end Sept. 1.
