Save ‘swamp’

To the editor:

Yes, Mr. Seminoff, Pogo is right, “the enemy is us.” If “us” is people like you who in one breath says save the trees but in the next says pave the “swamp.” Do you only believe some trees need to be saved and not others? Are only some squirrels and birds worth saving but not others?

A great many trees would be destroyed if the bypass goes through the Haskell-Baker wetlands as well as homes to a diverse population of animals. Have you ever visited the wetlands? If not, take a stroll through sometime. Springtime brings migrating birds. Late summer and fall bring the monarch butterflies as well as many other creatures. Pick up a copy of “The Wakarusa Wetlands in Word & Image.” You really don’t know what you are missing!
