FSHS girls rout SM North

? Lauren Kimball scored 18, leading four Free State High players in double figures in the Firebirds’ 76-48 girls basketball victory Monday over Shawnee Mission North.

Tricia Dunham (11), Kelsey Harrison (10) and Jenna Brantley (10) were the other double-digit Firebirds, but Kimball stole the spotlight, making nine of 12 field goals. Dunham also sank three three-pointers in a row.

Sarah Craft had six points and nine rebounds for the balanced Free State attack. Every suited-up Firebird scored.

“We played well as a team tonight. Everybody contributed and played very unselfish basketball,” FSHS coach Bryan Duncan said. “It was a definite team win.”

Duncan said the Firebirds, who clung to a nine-point halftime lead, bore down defensively in the second half, holding SM North to just five points in the third quarter.

“That obviously was the quarter of doom,” Duncan said.

Free State (10-7) will play host Friday to SM West.
