City contradiction

To the editor:

The City Commission plans to spend money to obtain green space for trees, parks and walking paths.

However, the City Commission also recently voted to support removing four-plus acres of trees and a walking path from the Peterson Acres area north of Peterson Road. This space will be used to build more city-owned housing units.

Concerns were expressed before the vote about existing problems in this area with drainage, sewerage and access into the area by emergency vehicles, but to no avail.

Surely there is another open area where these units can be built without destroying beautiful, mature trees.
