Sheriff investigating unattended death

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an 85-year-old woman who was found by a relative Thursday morning inside her home.

Deputies were called about 11 a.m. to the home just west of 31st and Iowa streets. The call initially came in as a report of someone drowning in a bathtub.

The house was quickly cordoned off with yellow crime-scene tape. More than half a dozen sheriff’s patrol cars were parked Thursday in the front yard, and detectives were photographing the scene.

Undersheriff Steve Hornberger said the case was being investigated as an unattended death. An autopsy was being scheduled Thursday, and the sheriff’s office did not release the woman’s name pending notification of relatives.
