Center funding

To the editor:

I notice in the last couple of months that the Salvation Army stated the need to build a new all-purpose service center to help the homeless.

Why the holdup? Why are they saying they are waiting for funds to start the project, when the national headquarters of Salvation Army was given $1.5 billion from the estate of Joan Kroc (she owned all of McDonald’s restaurant franchises). The money was given to them to build new centers around the country. There was a new center that just opened in Kansas City, Mo., last year. So, who are they really trying to help? Themselves or the people that really need these services?

It is time for this organization to be held more accountable to the money resources that are donated to them. The Lawrence Salvation Army could get the funds straight from the national office, just from the interest on that amount of money alone. Stop helping yourself and help the people that need it.
