Not literally
To the editor:
Recently President Bush gave his State of the Union speech. I would assume that much discussion and planning goes into this speech, as it is the most important chance a president has to speak to the American people.
One of the highlights of Bush’s address to the nation was a vow to reduce America’s dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025. According to Knight Ridder News the next day, Bush’s energy director and national economic adviser came out and said “the president didn’t mean it literally.”
I truly don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
