Car crashes through family’s bedroom wall
A Lawrence woman and her daughter are trying to recuperate from a shocking experience they had this weekend: awakening to the impact of a car crashing through their bedroom wall.
Melissa Sanford and her 2-year-old daughter were asleep in the same bed about 11 p.m. Sunday at Aberdeen Townhomes, 2300 Wakarusa Drive, when a Volkswagen driven by a 20-year-old Lawrence man crashed through the wall.
“I just heard this huge explosion and I sat up and I thought maybe I’d been dreaming. It was very surreal, but there was a car in my room,” she said.
She said the bed had been pushed 4 or 5 feet by the impact. No one was injured, but Sanford said her daughter is afraid to go back into the apartment and the family has been moved to another apartment in the complex.
Police cited the driver, identified as Ryan J. Mundzink, for reckless driving. A police report said alcohol was a contributing factor.
