An 18-year-old Lawrence High School student, Diana Lucinda Gabrielle Semmler, died suddenly this weekend.

LHS principal, Steve Nilhas, said the school district’s crisis response team was at the school Monday to help students and staff members deal with their grief after the loss.

“This was a young lady who was very close to a number of students here and certainly was very well liked,” Nilhas said. “Her friends, like anyone would be in a situation where they’ve lost someone, don’t understand why things are the way they are.”

A school district spokesperson said an autopsy was being performed and the cause of Semmler’s death, apparently of natural causes, wasn’t immediately known.
