Feminist to discuss work in Nicaragua
An advocate considered by some to be a revolutionary feminist and historian will visit Lawrence next week.
The group February Sisters is sponsoring a visit by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz. She made more than 100 trips to Nicaragua and Honduras in the 1980s to monitor the Contra war.
At 8 p.m. Feb. 14, Dunbar-Ortiz will talk about her work with the Sandinistas in Nicaragua and fighting oppression in the United States. She will appear at the Solidarity Radical Library, 1119 Mass. At 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15, she will speak in the Kansas Room at the Kansas Union. She will read from her book “Blood on the Border: A Memoir of the Contra War.”
