Council to discuss cleaning up cemetery
Dean Sage, a Perry City Council member, says honoring the dead sometimes isn’t what it should be.
He especially believes that’s the case with Medina Cemetery. A group of trees, vines and a discarded bicycle cover the small cemetery about one mile west of Perry.
A meeting on cleaning up the cemetery begins at 7 p.m. today at the Kentucky Township Firehouse and Perry Community Hall.
The last person buried at Medina, on record, was in 1905, and records show several infants were buried there because of a small-pox epidemic, Sage said.
Cemetery records also show more than 20 people buried there. Only five headstones are visible in the cemetery now.
