Cost of living
To the editor:
Scott Henderson’s letter about tax valuations and their far-reaching effects on senior citizens is right on!
We have lived in Douglas County 48 years plus, but only in the city the last nine months. It appears we will be moving back to well water, septic tank, rural refuse service and plenty of gardening. We love the city, but with the continual rising costs the rural area is looking real good again. Senior citizens don’t deserve this.
Both of us are retired and on fixed pensions. We are not able to have the standard of living we both spent years achieving and planned for. Seniors don’t expect a lot. A good hot cup of coffee and some place to “gather up” to talk. (Thank you for McDonald’s.)
Seniors have had their time trying to keep body and soul together. Raised families, and now in the sunset stage of life are being encumbered with things that should only be shared by those on wages and salaries.
Seniors’ hands are not clean. They have become complacent. Many are liberals and the very thing that undermines their fixed income is poor choices and money burning a hole in their pocket! When times were good they lived it up! Live for today. Now, they expect Social Security to be the answer to their retirement needs. It was only meant to be a supplement! May the Gray Panthers move up and take a stand!
