Caring tradition
To the editor:
As a senior citizen, I think spending money on a sports complex is a great idea. In earlier periods of our history, young children could test their life skills in real-life situations. Young people need to test themselves and now, in our urban settings, sports have become that healthy testing ground.
I continue to feel fortunate to live in such a place as Lawrence. One of the reasons that Lawrence is a great city, and growing, is that we care for our young people. “Caring” has many benefits, not the least of which is a lower crime rate. The city’s recreation programs, library, arts center, Van Go Arts, Lawrence Community Theatre and WRAP are just a few of the agencies that help create a greater quality of life for all of us. A sports center can continue this great tradition of caring. Hurrah for Lawrence!
