Recreation needs

To the editor:

Thank you to the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department for the new accessible exercise equipment at East Lawrence Recreation Center.

The recently installed Vitaglide Pro provides an opportunity for a seated workout for those using wheelchairs, with poor balance or other conditions, permanent or temporary, that preclude ambulatory activity. This equipment, combined with several paved and accessible trails, accessible indoor and outdoor aquatic centers, and a recreation program for citizens with developmental disabilities, encourages physically active lifestyles and resulting health benefits for people of all ages and abilities.

I appreciate Fred DeVictor’s leadership in recognizing the importance of inclusion, the staff’s willingness to listen to citizen input, and overall, LPRD’s efforts to meet the recreational needs of an increasingly diverse population.

Dot Nary,

Lawrence
