Share the Warmth Program gives away more than 11,000 coats

Scotch Fabric Care’s annual Share the Warmth program collected and gave away more than 2,300 coats this year in Lawrence.

Scotch, with the help of the Lawrence Salvation Army, conducted a two-day giveaway earlier this month for those in need of coats. In Topeka, another 9,055 coats were collected, cleaned and given away.

The coats are collected all year by Lawrence-based Scotch Industries.

Coats left over during the giveaway were then distributed to agencies that have clothing banks.

“We find a home for all of them,” said Scott Shmalberg, president of Scotch Industries.

Scotch issued a special thanks to students, parents and administrators at Langston Hughes School, St. John’s School and Southwest Junior High School for collecting coats.
