New Year’s holiday hours, closings announced

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday in observance of New Year’s Day.

They also will be closed in most area towns.

Lawrence, Douglas County administrative and District Court, and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts.

Banks will be closed.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed.

Lawrence Transit System buses will not run.

Commercial solid waste routes scheduled for Monday will be made Tuesday. Residential trash collections are not scheduled Mondays. To report a water or sewer emergency during a weekend or holiday, call 843-2685.

Parking will be free Monday in downtown Lawrence.

All Lawrence recreation centers, the Indoor Aquatic Center and Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed Monday.

For children ages 5 to 12, the New Year’s Overnighter will be 8 p.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.

Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open normal hours Sunday and Monday.

Senior Services of Douglas County will be closed. Meals will not be served, and Bus 62 transportation will not run Monday. Lawrence Meals on Wheels also will not deliver Monday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday.

The post office won’t make deliveries Monday. Express mail deliveries will be made.

Federal Express will not deliver Monday. UPS will not make regular deliveries Sunday or Monday.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open until 10 a.m. Monday for walk-ins and phone inquiries.

USA Today won’t be delivered Monday.
