Retired couple win $200,000 in Powerball

A retired Lawrence couple who owned a business for 40 years in Illinois have claimed a $200,000 Powerball prize.

The couple, who asked not to be identified, matched the first five numbers in the Saturday Powerball drawing. The winning ticket was a $5 Quick Pick purchased at Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Parkway.

Had the winners purchased the Power Play option for an extra dollar per play, they would have won $1 million. The Power Play number was five, which would have multiplied their winnings by five.

The winners said they’ve played lottery games in Illinois for years but hadn’t “hit it big” until now. They plan to donate some money to charity but aren’t sure what they will do with the rest of it.
