Bracciano not seeking office

Close will have to be close enough for Tom Bracciano’s City Commission aspirations.

Bracciano, who fell about 350 votes short of winning a seat on the commission in 2005, said Wednesday that he was not going to run for one of three open seats in 2007. There was significant speculation that Bracciano would run again.

“I don’t have the energy right now,” said Bracciano, who also is an administrator with Lawrence public schools. “It is a long campaign, and I was disappointed at how the last election turned sour at the end.”

The last election was marred by spurious accusations made through an anonymous postcard mailing about the personal life of Commissioner David Schauner, which was denounced by all the candidates as a new level of negative campaigning not previously seen in Lawrence elections.
