Shopping plans

To the editor:

After driving my car through city streets in Lawrence, I became aware of the need to change our plans for shopping.

There are very few stores for grocery shopping, which creates a need for more cars. If we spend more time in our cars, then we reduce our physical activity, which results in so many overweight people.

There is a front page article in the September issue of Environmental Magazine that tells us why we should all worship the ground we walk on. You don’t see many people walking on sidewalks in Lawrence because they have to go great distances to do their shopping. This could be the reason why we see more obese people.

I believe we should contact our politicians and ask them to take some action to solve this problem.
