Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed today in observance of Christmas.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts.

Douglas County District Court offices also will be closed Tuesday and will reopen Wednesday.

Banks will be closed.

Lawrence Transit System buses will not run. Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run.

Commercial solid waste routes scheduled for today will be made Tuesday.

No residential pickups are scheduled today.

Parking will be free today in downtown Lawrence. To report a water or sewer emergency during the holiday, call 843-2685.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed today.

South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Mass., and Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed today.

The East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.; the Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.; and the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., will be closed today.

All of the Lawrence recreation centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be closed today.

The Eagle Bend Golf Course will be closed today.

The Lawrence Douglas County Health Department will be closed today. The Lawrence Workforce Center will close today.

All services and facilities through Senior Services of Douglas County will be closed today and Tuesday. Meals will not be served those days, and Bus 62 will not run.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver.

The post office won’t make deliveries today, and the post office will be closed. Express Mail deliveries will be made.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open until 10 a.m. today for walk-ins and phone inquiries.
