Driver injured in crash at Baldwin Junction

A Greeley woman was treated at a hospital and released after she was injured in a two-vehicle collision early Thursday at Baldwin Junction, 10 miles south of Lawrence.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, the injured woman, Sarah Hesse, 30, was driving her 2003 Kia south on U.S. Highway 59. She failed to yield at its four-way stop with U.S. Highway 56 at 12:49 a.m. and rear-ended a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that had stopped at the intersection.

The pickup’s driver, Kendall Kieffaber, 37, Pomona, and passenger, Jeffrey Marconette, 31, Ottawa, suffered possible injuries, according to the accident report. But Lawrence Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Janice Early-Weas said Thursday afternoon that the hospital had no record of admission for either man.

Hesse had been treated and released, Early-Weas said. All three people wore seat belts, according to the accident report.

The Kansas Department of Transportation transformed the intersection of U.S. 59 and U.S. 56 into a four-way stop in August after receiving complaints from residents and drivers about two fatal accidents there this year.
