Public invited to today’s Jingle Bell fundraiser

? Some will run. Some will walk. And most will be decked out in jingling bells and battery-powered lights.

Dozens of runners and walkers are expected to take part in tonight’s Jingle Bell Run through downtown Lawrence, raising money for the Ballard Community Center.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. behind Kizer-Cummings Jewelers, 833 Mass., according to Don “Red Dog” Gardner, who runs the Red Dog’s Dog Days community workout program.

The 1.5-mile route goes from the city parking lot to Ninth and Massachusetts streets, then south on Massachusetts to the Douglas County Courthouse at 11th Street, then back north on Massachusetts to the railroad tracks near Sixth Street and then south to Kizer-Cummings for hot cider.

Dianne Ensminger, Ballard’s president and chief operating officer, will be at the run to accept donations.

Donations also can be made by mail to Jingle Bell Run, Ballard Community Center, P.O. Box 7, Lawrence 66044.
