The body of a Lawrence woman was found Wednesday morning near the Kansas River levee, Lawrence police said.

The woman, identified as 41-year-old Susan M. Shackelford, of Lawrence, was pronounced dead at the scene just before 8 a.m. behind 903 N. Second St. near the river.

Shackelford’s last residence was listed on the 700 block of Fifth Street.

Police are awaiting a coroner’s report to determine the cause of death and are continuing to investigate.
