2 Lawrence businesses cited for food violations
Two Lawrence businesses have been found in violation of state food laws by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
The Bar, 623 Vt., was cited for operating a food service without a license. The Bar was checked by a KDHE inspector on Aug. 31 and again on Sept. 25. The penalty for such a violation is $500.
KDHE also gave notice to Ad Astra LLC that it does not intend to grant a food service license application for Ad Astra Catering, 949 E. 1500 Road.
KDHE inspectors checked the facility June 27 and found that potentially hazardous food was not kept adequately cold. An application for a food service license was received by KDHE on July 5.
The agent of record is listed as Jason Coen. A hearing can be requested with KDHE on the matter.
Phone numbers available for Coen and Ad Astra were not working.
Steven G. Gaudreau, owner of The Bar, said he only serves drinks at his establishment, not food. Gaudreau said he contacted KDHE and will be obtaining proper licensing by Friday, however. He said he will be paying $400 to the state – $200 for an application fee and $200 for the license.
