Lawrence police are investigating a body found this morning near the Kansas River levee.

Police and Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to a location behind 903 N. Second St. at around 8 a.m. because of reports of a medical emergency.

A 41-year-old Lawrence woman was found dead at the location. The cause of death is yet unknown, and the identity of the woman will not be released until next of kin have been notified, police said.

Police are leading the ongoing investigation.
