Bar Foundation extends deadline

The Kansas Bar Foundation is extending the application deadline for grants through the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts program. The deadline for 2007 grants, which had been Dec. 1, now is Dec. 29.

This year the foundation provided $128,000 in grants statewide to nonprofit groups that provide support for legal services to the disadvantaged; public education about the law; and administration of justice programs. Among this year’s recipients was Kansas Legal Services Inc., which received $87,000 for serving senior citizens and others in need.

The Kansas grant program is supported by more than 3,330 lawyers and 130 financial institutions statewide by collecting interest from trust accounts in which funds are nominal in amount or are expected to be held for a short period of time.

The foundation’s president is Sally Pokorny, who is “of counsel” with The Law Offices of David J. Brown, Lawrence.
