ECKAN, Penn House cancel food distribution
Two Lawrence social service agencies – ECKAN and Penn House – will not have their monthly distribution of commodity foods this month.
The Ballard Center, 708 Elm, will have a food distribution from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday.
ECKAN normally distributes surplus commodity food to the needy on the fourth Thursday of each month, and Penn House normally distributes food on the third Wednesday of each month.
“We usually don’t do it in December because we have other Christmas programs,” said Sherri Scott, a spokeswoman for ECKAN, which stands for East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation.
