Employees of Allen Press Inc. donated $8,413 this year to the United Way of Douglas County through paycheck deductions and participating in a pancake feed.

The donation is up from last year’s $3,526, with the number of employees participating having risen by more than 300 percent, said Susan Metzger, manager of Allen Marketing & Managing, who coordinated this year’s campaign.

The company’s Employee Activities Committee is spearheading collections for Toys for Tots, and cash and canned and boxed nonperishable items are being collected for donation to Penn House’s food pantry.

Employee Robert Kerley also is arranging for stockings stuffed with items to be sent to U.S. military troops abroad through the AdoptaPlatoon “Stockings from Santa” campaign.

Allen Press partners with academic, medical and specialty organizations to provide printing, publishing and association business management services. The 71-year-old company has about 400 employees.
