District attorney’s office charges Kemp

Kansas safety Jerome Kemp was charged today with felony motor vehicle burglary and two misdemeanors, theft less than $1,000 and criminal damage to property, the Douglas County District Attorney’s office said Wednesday.

Kemp, a senior from Wichita, had turned himself into police on Monday on suspicion of breaking into a car and stealing more than $1,000 in property.

He posted $2,250 bond Tuesday, jail officials said.

A 22-year-old woman told police Kemp smashed the driver’s window of her Volkswagen Jetta and took CDs and other items.

Kansas Athletics spokesman Jim Marchiony said the incident won’t affect Kemp athletically because he has used up his eligibility.

“His career is over,” Marchiony said.
