Mayor, county to meet to discuss regulations

Lawrence Mayor Mike Amyx will meet with Douglas County commissioners Monday to discuss proposed rural development and subdivision regulations.

Earlier this week, county commissioners gave an ultimatum to the Lawrence City Commission to approve the regulations or the county will go its own way in areas of development. Currently, the city and county have a partnership in approving development issues.

A couple of months ago, county commissioners signed off on the regulations and forwarded them to the city for approval. Discussions about the regulations have been going on for more than a year.

County commissioners also will again take up a request to approve football field improvements at Forest View Ministries, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

The request went before commissioners a week ago but they held off approval. They said they wanted to be sure the site would be used only for church-related religious reasons and not for generating revenue. Revenue generation would require a zoning change, they said.

Commissioners will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
