Shawnee Mission West’s Blake Lawrence has been named Kansas high school football player of the year by Gatorade.

Lawrence was a unanimous choice for the All-Sunflower League team as a defensive back. At quarterback, the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder settled for second-team honors behind Free State’s Ryan Murphy.

Last year’s honoree was Salina Central’s Jake Sharp, who is now a member of Kansas University’s football team. Lawrence has committed to Nebraska.
