Bus exhaust

To the editor:

Speaking of clean air and the officials in charge of health and environment in Lawrence, have they ever been behind the big buses when the bus takes off from a complete stop and the exhaust fumes blow directly in the traffic behind the bus? The exhaust fumes are enough to choke the people to death in the vehicles behind.

I would think that the exhaust pipes on the buses could be run up high on the back of the buses to carry the exhaust fumes up and away rather than at ground level.

The environment officials and bus owners should seriously look into this exhaust air problem.
