A freshman at Baldwin High School collapsed Tuesday while jogging during her physical education class and was flown to a Kansas City, Mo., hospital after not responding for several minutes.

Paul Dorathy, superintendent for Baldwin schools, said the girl collapsed after jogging outdoors at the high school under the supervision of her instructor, Suzie Mart.

The girl’s name was not available Tuesday.

The girl was breathing, but after she did not respond for several minutes school officials called for medical help.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical crews arrived and called a LifeStar helicopter ambulance, which transported the girl to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Dorathy indicated the girl may have a medical condition, but said school officials would investigate the incident.
