Doctor to discuss mental health care

Dr. Roy Menninger will talk about mental health care in Kansas during a community meeting Thursday sponsored by the Lawrence-Douglas County League of Women Voters.

The meeting will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

It will be part of the League of Women Voters of Kansas’ two-year statewide study on mental health care in the state.

Menninger is a member of the board of directors of the Menninger-Baylor College of Medicine-The Methodist Hospital Foundation.

Menninger has been asked to talk about the history of the mental health system in Kansas, how the Mental Health Reform Act changed the flow of funds and accountability for mental services, the social consequences of de-institutionalization and what steps are needed to improve the mental health care system.
