To the editor:

After reading a recent article bad-mouthing Rep. Jim Ryun’s use of the franking privilege, I was stunned by the lack of Journal-World coverage regarding Rep. Dennis Moore’s abuse of the franking privilege.

On Aug. 4, Rep. Dennis Moore sent out a four-page color mailing paid for by taxpayers even though he had just won an uncontested primary on Aug. 1. He sent out another four-page color mailing on Aug. 5.

It’s time that incumbents not waste taxpayer dollars on campaign materials. Why can’t Rep. Moore and Rep. Ryun use their campaign funds for political mailings? Rep. Dennis Moore’s latest campaign finance report showed almost $1 million in his campaign war chest.
