Kansas University classes resume today

It’s back to school today for Jayhawks at Kansas University.

“I’m definitely excited,” KU senior Ian Staples said. “It’s my last year. I hope to make it a good one.”

Roughly 5,700 new students, including about 1,200 transfer students, are expected at KU this semester.

Students will find a new park-and-ride lot on west campus and bus system to shuttle employees and students to and from the main campus. The new lot is the only parking available for freshmen who live off campus.

The system started Monday and is running smoothly, said Danny Kaiser, KU assistant director of parking and transit.

Kaiser said he doesn’t expect the system to be used to its full capacity right from the start.

“We won’t hit our peak for a couple of weeks,” he said.

At Haskell Indian Nations University, orientation for new students and move-in begins Saturday. Classes there start Wednesday.
