County commission approves replatting

A replatting of the Quantrill Acres subdivision east of Pleasant Grove was approved Wednesday night by the Douglas County Commission.

During a meeting last month the replatting was opposed by several residents who live near the property owned by John Stevens at the southwest corner of North 800 Road and East 1485 Road. The property has been a neighborhood park for several years even though it is on private property. The park was established under a previous owner.

The replatting allows conversion of the 5.2 acres to a “buildable lot.”

Commissioners Bob Johnson and Charles Jones said they had no recourse under law or regulations not to approve the replatting. They also said they felt uneasy about being caught in the middle of a neighborhood dispute. Commissioner Jere McElhaney was absent from the meeting because of a personal conflict.

Commissioners also signed a resolution that basically notifies the public of a possibility of a property tax increase to support the county’s 2007 budget. No one showed up to participate in a public hearing on the budget. The budget approved by commissioners calls for a mill levy of 30.026, a decrease of less than a mill below last year’s levy. Taxes could still go up because of increased property values.
