Autopsy in train death could take weeks

It could take six to eight weeks for an autopsy to be finished for Jeannie NewMoon, the Lawrence resident who was struck and killed by a train this weekend in North Lawrence.

Railroad officials said it appeared NewMoon was trying to remove something from the railroad tracks when she was struck and killed early Saturday afternoon. Her family members said they’ve been told she was trying to remove her bicycle from the tracks, and they said they believe she may have been sedated from medical treatment.

The final autopsy report will include results of blood tests and other laboratory work.
