Health department confirms more crypto
Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department officials Tuesday confirmed two more cases of cryptosporidium, bringing the total number of cases to five.
According to Kay Kent, the health department’s director, all confirmed cases involve children attending child-care facilities.
In four of the cases the children attend Princeton Children’s Center, 3340 Peterson Road. Three of those cases also tested positive for giardia.
In the other case, the child attends the Hilltop Child Development Center at Kansas University and a home care facility.
Cryptosporidium and giardia are both parasites that cause diarrhea. The diseases are easily spread person to person.
