Commission to discuss safety of intersection

The city’s Traffic Safety Commission will discuss ways to improve safety at the intersection of 11th Street and Haskell Avenue at its meeting tonight.

The commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room of Fire Station No. 5, 1911 Stewart Ave.

City Traffic Engineer David Woosley said commissioners will discuss concerns that motorists are not yielding at the 11th Street and Haskell Avenue intersection and are going left of the centerline when making left turns.

Woosley said the commission will discuss adding yield signs that remind turning motorists that they must yield to through traffic. Woosley said another option is to install a short median at the approaches of the intersection.

Other items on the commission’s agenda include:

¢ Discussion of safety improvements of the recreational path at Sawgrass Drive.

¢ Consideration of a no-parking request along the south side of Trail Road between Monterey Way and Sierra Drive.

¢ Consideration of placing stop signs on Stockade Street at Stetson Drive.

All actions by the Traffic Safety Commission are only advisory and must receive final approval by the City Commission.
