Climbing into the 90s

Triple-digit temperatures return Wednesday

Get ready for a steamy day, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It is a warm and sticky start,” Schack said. “We should see more sunshine return this afternoon and those temperatures should head into the mid 90s.”

Although scattered clouds were moving through, afternoon thunderstorms will stay well off to the north of the Lawrence area, Schack said. The temperatures should climb to a high of 95, she said.

At 7:35 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 75 degrees, the humidity was 90 percent and winds were out of the east at 6 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record low was 54 degrees, set in 1989.

The average high temperature for this date is 91 degrees. The record high was 111 degrees, set in 1934.

“Tomorrow, we turn up the heat,” Schack said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 72 degrees, with the high reaching 102 on Wednesday afternoon, she said.

The burners will be turned up a notch on Thursday, she said. Thursday’s morning low temperature will be 74 degrees, with Thursday’s high reaching 103 and a heat index of 110-plus, she said.
