Chance for scattered showers

Cloudy skies and a few more showers could be in store for Lawrence today, says Sarah Jones, 6News weather forecaster.

“We had a shower move through a while ago that made the pavement wet,” Jones shortly after 7 a.m.

Lawrence Municipal Airport recorded .02 of an inch from the showers.

“It looks like now we have a break from the rain, but we may see a little bit more today,” Jones said.

Today’s temperature will climb to 93 degrees, she said. The average high temperature for this date is 91 degrees. The record high was 111 degrees, set in 1934.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 74 degrees, the humidity was 85 percent and winds were out of the east-southeast at 9 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record low was 54 degrees, set in 1989.

Jones said there might be some breaks in the clouds today, but the chance for storms continues overnight into Tuesday.

Tuesday’s morning low temperature will be 70 degrees, she said. Tuesday’s high will be 88 degrees, with a chance for storms through the day.

“I think they will be moving out of the area by the end of the day tomorrow,” she said.

Hot weather returns again Wednesday, Jones said.

Wednesday’s morning low temperature will begin at 69 degrees, then it will climb to 97 degrees by late Wednesday afternoon, she said.
