Lemonade stands raise thousands for research

A series of lemonade stands in Lawrence earlier this summer raised more than $2,000 for pediatric-cancer research.

The stands, set up at local Hy-Vee stores in early June, raised money for the “Alex’s Lemonade Stand” foundation. The foundation was started six years ago in Philadelphia by a young cancer patient, Alex Scott, who wanted to raise money for research.

Similar stands took place in the Kansas City area and raised more than $60,000 total.
