Suspect in stabbing charged with battery

A Lawrence man was charged Wednesday with aggravated battery in a stabbing incident that put another man in the hospital Monday night.

Richard J. Tebe, 36, also was charged with domestic battery for a confrontation with a woman.

He is being held in the Douglas County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Tebe was arrested after Lawrence Police investigated an incident that occurred in the area of 26th Street and Redbud Lane.

A 43-year-old man saw the disturbance allegedly between Tebe and the woman and interceded. He was then stabbed, police said.

The victim, Michael J. Moore, was flown by helicopter to a Kansas City area hospital. His condition was unavailable, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening at this time.

Tebe is to appear in court again at 2 p.m. Monday so a preliminary hearing can be scheduled.

During his first court appearance Wednesday, Tebe said he pushed the woman, “which I shouldn’t have done” and said he was then attacked by a man.
