Cycling safety
To the editor:
Thank you, John Gutschenritter, for writing in about the bicyclists on Douglas County 458 and 1057 roads. I drive on 458 daily and I too have encountered bicyclists who ignore traffic laws at that intersection. On one occasion, I was already into the intersection after coming to a complete stop and had a bicyclist continue riding through the intersection in front of me, nearly causing me to hit him.
I also would like to remind bicyclists that 458 is a narrow, hilly road east of 1057, and, in the mornings and evenings, the sun is in drivers’ eyes, making it extremely difficult to see bicyclists. Please, for your safety, keep in mind that we might not be able to see you and ride single file!
Ila Russell,
Lawrence
