Retired principal to receive award

CornerBank has announced that Orvel Criqui is the recipient of the bank's Community Cornerstone Award for April. The bank will make a contribution on behalf of Criqui to the Boys & Girls Club and to the Haskell Foundation.
Criqui will be honored during a public reception set for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the bank, 4621 W. Sixth St.
Criqui worked for 41 years as a teacher, coach and administrator for schools in Kansas, until his retirement in 1996. He was the first principal of South Junior High School in Lawrence.
He served as a charter member of the Boys & Girls Club, and received an award in 1986 in recognition of his 30 years of service to the Junior Olympics.
Criqui, who earned his doctorate from Kansas University, has lived in Lawrence since 1955.
