Pitcher lifts Firebirds

Blankenship stellar; JV golfers play up

The Free State High baseball squad blanked Olathe South, 2-0, Wednesday at Free State.

Firebird starter Travis Blankenship remained undefeated, picking up his fourth win after going 61â3 innings. He notched seven strikeouts and just one walk.

“We had good pitching, and everyone competed well,” Free State coach Mike Hill said.

Scott Heitshusen paced the Firebird offense, going 2-for-3 with a double.

Leadoff man Robby Price went 1-for-2, and Brett Lisher was 1-for-3.

Free State (12-2) will play host to Shawnee Mission South at 5:30 today.

2nd at Sycamore Ridge

Spring Hill – Free State’s junior varsity golf team competed with varsity squads from smaller schools and took second among 11 teams Wednesday at Sycamore Ridge golf course. The Firebirds’ finished with a team score of 337. Mill Valley took first with 321.
